Red Carpet: An Essay on Nylon Dresses

Raf Simons ha renovado Calvin Klein de una forma en la que solo él – junto con Pieter Mulier – saben hacer, en su gran mayoría para bien de la marca.

Para su última colección Primavera 2018, Raf se inspiró en las historias de terror de Estados Unidos: las películas de Hitchcock (de ahí las siluetas tan 50’s), Kubrick, Carrie, y en los archivos de Andy Warhol. Para el final de la colección Simons presentó una serie de vestidos hechos de nylon haciendo alusión a las tiendas de acampar típicas de los gringos.

Para la premier de la última película de Star Wars: The Last Jedi, la actriz Daisy Ridley decidió vestir uno de estos vestidos, específicamente el look 48 en negro carbón. Y mientras sigo pensando si el brillo del nylon era el correcto para una ocasión en la que los flashes de las cámaras iban a estar en abundancia recuerdo el look similar que utilizó Zendaya hace unos meses, y reconozco que Daisy lo lució mil veces mejor - algo que si acepto me molesta mucho son las arrugas, pero lo mismo sucede cuando el satín hace de las suyas así que hay que ser objetivo.

En general hay que reconocer que Daisy se ve increíblemente bien con el conjunto, las proporciones son las correctas, el peinado sencillo resalta muy bien sus ojos claros y no obstruye el cuello halter.

¿Qué aprendimos entonces? Cuando la textura de tu conjunto es tan ostentosa o llamativa como el nylon deja que éste hable por si solo.

For his Spring 2018 collection he was inspired by American horror: Hitchcock (hence the 50’s silhouettes), Kubrick, Carrie, and Andy Warhol archival 1971 prints of Dennis Hopper and Sandra Brant. For the last part of the collection down the runway walked a series of nylon dresses that gave a hint of camping tents, very acute with the place where most American horror tales are told.

For the premiere of the last installment of the Star Wars franchise, the actress Daisy Ridley decided to wear one of these dresses, specifically look #48. And while I’m still wondering if the brightness of nylon was a good choice comes to my mind the almost-similar look Zendaya wore a couple of months ago and I objectively vote for Daisy and the contender of this red carpet deathmatch – still I am can’ting with the wrinkles.

Overall, Daisy looks elegant and poised, the proportions are right, the hairstyle messes with neither the makeup nor the halter neck. I just wish she would just snap out of it and just started to bring some whim to this press tour – her Monse look left me yawning.

So, what was today’s lesson? When you’re wearing such attractive textures just let them do the talking, you just mind doing the walking.
