SPACE ODDITY
Hace más o menos un año el mundo editorial en Panamá podría considerarse casi muerto, todavía de hecho. ¿Dónde habían quedado las publicaciones que nos hacían soñar y fantasear sobre mundos inexistentes en nuestras manos pero latentes en nuestras mentes?
Junto a dos amigos, Ricardo Canino y Guille Montiel, decidimos seguir la misión de crear imágenes impactantes, de alto voltaje, más que nada por la sed creativa de crear, de componer y de soñar. La moda lo permite, pero la moda junto con la fotografía, eso es una garantía.
Este editorial lo hicimos hace ya más de un año. Guardado en silencio espero hasta mostrarse hoy. Inspirado en un Japón intergaláctico, en las mangas y animes que veíamos de pequeños. En las subculturas. “Space Oddity” también es uno de los últimos editoriales en los que Estuardo Marroquín trabajó, un alma pura y llena de luz que nos dijo hasta luego en el 2017 pero que sigue vibrando a través del arte que nos dejó. El arte de ser, aquí y ahora.
Little more than a year ago the editorial world in Panama was and is still considered dead. Magazines stopped following their own heartbeats - due to the economic depression in luxury and beauty – to simply publish reductive lackluster editorials. Where did the dreams and fantasies of fashion go?
Altogether, with Ricardo Canino (photographer) and Guille Montiel (stylist), I decided to keep on creating groundbreaking images, high voltage, because we needed, we were gasping for air, for creativity to flow.
“Space Oddity”, as we named this fashion editorial in honor of Bowie’s legacy on space traveling and self-discovery, found its roots in a dream of a galactic Japan, in subcultures from the future and the animes we watched as kids. This editorial is also one of the last editorial in which Estuardo Marroquin was involved, a pure soul full of light that started its own journey through the galaxy last year. Estuardo is still vibrating with us, he is present through his work, his art. The art of living here and now.
Quisimos también hacer una yuxtaposición del pasado y el futuro con la moda, que en su totalidad fue creada por el súper talentoso diseñador panameño Tony Vergara, también con las piezas de joyería de REPROSA, una empresa cuyas fundaciones datan de hace miles de años cuando Panamá aún era territorio precolombino. Cada una de sus joyas encuentra molde en diseños aborígenes de hace miles de años y abrieron su taller para nosotros.
We also wanted to create a meeting point between past and future with fashion. All clothing was created in its entirety by Tony Vergara, a uber talented Panamanian designer and also with the accessories which are all from REPROSA, a local brand that defines every single one of its pieces by designs that were made thousands of years ago by Panama’s first residents.
